Rave On

Goaty

I love the mornings. The crows in this part of town are having a party after the rain. Everything is not just green, it’s luminous. People are quiet and animals are having a jamboree. Christmas has passed with its usual microscopic study of the dynamics of family. Sometimes good. Sometimes downright scary. A wonderful collection of Indian Nationals came to last nights Osho Meditation. Which is great because all the westerners are on holiday. Aside from making me feel at home, I had a few moments wondering if there is a whole range of sensitivity that I simply haven’t got a handle on that is natural for these guys. Their descriptions of the experiences they have suggest as much.

I have astrology readings to do and am looking forward to once again entering the mirror of the stars to see what they have to say to me. These are goaty Capricorn days. Deserts and mountain tops and lust and righteousness climbing and structure – the structure of rocks and stones. I like goats – though I’ve never had to keep one. They like a lot of space I’m told.

Lion Island is playing at Rics on New Years Eve if you are in Brisbane and are brave and interested.

I AM available for sessions, to run workshops and give talks. My e-mail address is astropoetica@gmail.com

And the Rains Came….

Rave

Well the rains came. It was beginning to look like they never would. The heat that seemed endless and purgatorial is now gone. Washed away by the grey mists of a gentle tropical downpour. I was dancing around earlier thinking what a wonderfully pagan beast the stars are. So earthy and affirmative in their roots. Full of juice and life. Especially as the Sun heads for Capricorn. The Greek God Pan always makes me smile. Who would have guessed that Christmas – the certifiably silly season – is patched on to the time of the year that was famous for the Saturnalia – the Celebration of License. Of course there had to be an annual revoking of laws and annulling of marriages to let off the steam that the rest of the years accumulated repression had caused. That’s the exact same madness in the streets and shopping malls today. No different – just less honestly named. We are going to get a mighty taste of it in the band, playing on New Years Eve. Repress. Indulge. Who is out of the loop? I’m not. At least we can give it a name.

Hard Sell

Thoughts and Songs Compiled

Posted in Astrology, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on December 14, 2009 by sudhirastropoetica

It’s a dirty hot Queensland night. Finally the mosquitoes have joined in the party, after having been strangely absent for the early part of summer. Soon I will go and hide in my mosquito net and ponder sleep, as I perspire and roll around wrestling with this hot December night. It’s ‘Take a good look at this moment and see what you see’ night. So, what do I see? My book is out and doing it’s mysterious business, quietly and hopefully fruitfully. I can hear it slipping off bookshop shelves into paper bags. I can hear it moving off it’s pallet at the book making factory and slipping into postbags and flying off to places unknown. I have now decided that I like the songs I have up at  www.sudhir.bandcamp.com  The act of making a compilation has rescued them and me from a certain ambivalence. Now I’m not ambivalent at all. It’s clear, I like them. They are what they are. Nothing more and nothing less. The band has played it’s second last gig for the year. We’re on at Rics on New Year’s eve if you happen to be in Brisbane. That will be fun. New PA. New stage. We might even fit on. We’ve been contemplating the next move there. Looks like it might be an album. We shall see. I have been doing plenty of Astrology Readings of late. Mostly for folks in WA or Italy. Mostly they are a journey into the incredible relevancy of mythology via a tour of the planets. That plus a whole huge angle on meditation and psychology that comes from 32 years with Osho. Yep – 32 years last Friday. Happy Birthday Sudhir. I have no idea who is reading this thing – but I love a free form place to write. A place where all the bits and pieces that stick out the edges of the stars and get binned can star in their own right. Love and fun to you all whoever you are xxx

CENTAURS

Posted in Astrology, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on December 7, 2009 by sudhirastropoetica

It being the beginning of the next monthly Zodiac cycle, I have been collecting visual images that illustrate the mythology, as is my wont. This month it is the time of the Centaur. I also read my favourite chapter in “The Astrology of Fate” by Liz Greene, to get my mythological bearings. No matter how many times I read these things I keep finding new information and new angles. Centaurs seem to be described as alternately as ruffians, wounded souls and wise teachers. They are earthly creatures who aspire to the heavens. The most fully formed Centaur in mythology is Chiron, who is a beautiful, painful, wise and compassionate creature who never really recovered from receiving one of his own arrows, tipped with a particularly lethal poison, in the thigh. He ached the pain of mortality and was finally released when a swap was made for him and Prometheus. Prometheus being the one who wanted to bring the fire of the heavens to earth. It’s a long story but fascinating. Prometheus (associated with Aquarius) wants to bring the heavens to earth – and Chiron (Sagittarius) wants to rise from earth to the heavens. In the end both their dreams come true via a truly Olympian and perhaps Machiavellian swap. (Read the chapter ‘Mythology and Fate’ in the book mentioned above for the full yarn).

I love how bountifully and how beautifully this stuff was painted in medieval antiquity – and most recently in the English Romantic era. Gorgeous pictorial interpretations that celebrate our rich yet oft neglected pagan history.

For the rest – Lion Island is playing at the Troubadour in Brisbane (yet again) this coming Sunday the 13th of December. We are supporting a band called “Why?”. From Canada I believe. There are still tickets available – but not many. Come along if for a rollicking good time. We will be rolling out at least one new song and honing, evolving and continuing to create and grow the rest. An old friend described us as being the music that goes with Mullah Nasrudin type characters riding donkeys and selling pumpkins the other day. I will be pondering that on stage.

Bookshops and Lightning Strikes

Posted in Astrology, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , on December 1, 2009 by sudhirastropoetica

At last I’ve got some clues as to what bookshops in Australia are carrying my book. Here goes –

In Queensland – Mary Ryans in Milton/Bulimba/Noosa

The Museum of Brisbane Shop in the City Hall

In Western Australia – Dymocks in Fremantle/Midland Gate

Planet Books Mount Lawley

In South Australia and Victoria – Dymocks in Adelaide

Dymocks in Murray Bridge

(If you know of any others, or if you are a bookshop and want the world to know, let me know and i’ll post the names here)

It has been a big week. My eyes are nearly falling out of my head and my kitchen has become as unfamiliar as a foreign country. Four gigs with the band in a week, plus rehearsals, plus a book signing – and more. There are more Lion Island gigs coming up in the next couple of weeks. Go to our www.myspace.com/lionisland for details.

As far as the stars are concerned I am aware of the presence of the Centaur season. Yes – the Sun is in Sagittarius. I associate Sagittarius with a photo I seem to have lost of a bolt of lightning striking a tree – a sudden dramatic flash of illumination. An arrow of light hurled down from on high by Jupiter, or Zeus. Whether that lightning strike illuminates or burns is pretty much in the lap of the gods. It illuminates if it isn’t tainted by hubris. It burns if it is claimed and possessed by the self-satisfied ego that thinks that it knows. This seems to be the fundamental Centaur dilemma; To enter experiential knowing in such a way that ones openness and innocence remains intact.
