It’s been a very long time between drinks – but here I am back at my keyboard tying up a blog entry. My life has been immersed in the world of acute mental health support. And what a journey it has been. I’ve am having a very real encounter with the system and met a wonderful collection of characters along the way. Still, no matter what has been going on I keep tapping out astrology columns for various newspapers and www.osho.com. Astrology continues to be a vehicle for expression. Mythology keeps being a way to understand things in that mid-land between logic and meditative silence. People keep finding me to have sessions; mostly on-line these days. Life goes on.

The other thing that I have done over the last year and a bit is an on-line Certificate in Trauma and Stress Studies put together by the Trauma Centre in Boston. I even went to Boston in June/July to go to the 27th Annual Trauma Conference. I am truly gob-smacked by the work that is going on in this realm. It is the future of mental health. Check out Bessel van der Kolk (The Body Keeps the Score), Peter Levine, Steven Porges and more. They are empirical scientists whose research is starting to affirm the sanity and effectiveness of such things as body awareness, meditation/mindfulness, relating, creativity and flow. Bless them for bridging a whole lot of really important gaps.

For the rest, it’s feels like consolidation time. My book is now available on Etsy. Go to www.etsy.com and search for Sudhir Astrology. You’ll find two shops with it. Either work. $20 with free shipping anywhere in the world. Also, I have a remastered collection of old songs up at https://sudhir.bandcamp.com/ Bandcamp now take Credit Card payments as well as Paypal. They have finally made life easier. I also post articles from time to time on Linked In. If you feel like getting in touch – do. Love and fun – Sudhir

Free Music, Academia and The Pole Star

Posted in Astrology, Music with tags , , , , , , on September 2, 2011 by sudhirastropoetica

I’ve just been and had some fun on my Bandcamp page. www.sudhir.bandcamp.com Having managed to get my mastering program up and running on my new computer, I have remastered all my old songs, and put 12 of them up for downloading. You can name your price – which includes FREE if you so desire – and are one of the first couple of hundred to do so each month.

And oh my god – it’s been over nine months since I updated this page! So – where have I been? aside from going through floods and storms and having a solid encounter with the fact of aging, via my 94 year old mum, I have been studying. Somewhere near the end of last year I got possessed by the idea to get a Counselling Degree. As it turns out, I am having a whole lot of fun with it. I’m studying on-line via the Jansen Newman Institute in Sydney and am pretty damn impressed so far. There’s been heaps of sociology, which has meant me getting my head around folks like Michel Foucault after years of avoiding them – and I’m discovering counselling models that I really like. Mostly those that have arisen through a trail that leads to Milton Erickson (Narrative/Brief Solution Focussed). Erickson had the idea that the Unconscious is a huge positive resource, rather than a fathomless Freudian cesspit. I like it.

Astrology goes ever onwards and upwards however. I am intrigued by the idea of the Pole Star – that point in the sky that doesn’t move – which symbolises that within us that also doesn’t move. I found a meditation technique in ‘The Book of The Secrets’ by Osho that is all about remembering this stillness, as everything around it dances, shifts and changes. It’s a lovely metaphor for astrology. The planets dance and change. The Pole Star hints at the axle around which it all dances. The parts of us that are represented by the planets and signs go through their crazy dramas; the bit within us represented by the Pole Star, doesn’t. It is a witness.

Lovely.

Thoughts and Songs Compiled

Posted in Astrology, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on December 14, 2009 by sudhirastropoetica

It’s a dirty hot Queensland night. Finally the mosquitoes have joined in the party, after having been strangely absent for the early part of summer. Soon I will go and hide in my mosquito net and ponder sleep, as I perspire and roll around wrestling with this hot December night. It’s ‘Take a good look at this moment and see what you see’ night. So, what do I see? My book is out and doing it’s mysterious business, quietly and hopefully fruitfully. I can hear it slipping off bookshop shelves into paper bags. I can hear it moving off it’s pallet at the book making factory and slipping into postbags and flying off to places unknown. I have now decided that I like the songs I have up at  www.sudhir.bandcamp.com  The act of making a compilation has rescued them and me from a certain ambivalence. Now I’m not ambivalent at all. It’s clear, I like them. They are what they are. Nothing more and nothing less. The band has played it’s second last gig for the year. We’re on at Rics on New Year’s eve if you happen to be in Brisbane. That will be fun. New PA. New stage. We might even fit on. We’ve been contemplating the next move there. Looks like it might be an album. We shall see. I have been doing plenty of Astrology Readings of late. Mostly for folks in WA or Italy. Mostly they are a journey into the incredible relevancy of mythology via a tour of the planets. That plus a whole huge angle on meditation and psychology that comes from 32 years with Osho. Yep – 32 years last Friday. Happy Birthday Sudhir. I have no idea who is reading this thing – but I love a free form place to write. A place where all the bits and pieces that stick out the edges of the stars and get binned can star in their own right. Love and fun to you all whoever you are xxx

A Book Signing, Lions and the Big Smoke

Posted in Astrology, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on November 26, 2009 by sudhirastropoetica

This week is my first ever book signing. It is at Mary Ryans in Milton (Brisbane) from 11am on this Saturday November 28th. Get yourself down there. I’ll be practising the art of my signature and short written one-liners all day today.

Getting a book out and about in the world is quite an adventure. Having just done a massive mail-out to all the ex-subscribers of my ex-website, and having delivered all the clues of bookshops I know around this country to my publisher I now feel like a fisherman who has cast his line and now gets to wait – whilst telling tall stories to whoever will listen. All the details about how to buy the book, wherever you are around the globe, are below in this blog.

I am intrigued by the relationship of Astrology to the place of No-mind, Zen, Dhyan, Witnessing, whatever you want to call it, that is at the very heart of my quest. Astrology is a description of the wheel and how to navigate it. Witnessing is the hub. Astrology only works for me when it is an aid to resting at the centre of the wheel. It seems that there is a way to use astrology so that it becomes a working description of the nature of the wheel, an opportunity to make peace with one’s foibles, and hence have an easy passage to the miracle of centering. Without the wheel there would be no sense of what the centre could be. Without the centre, the wheel wouldn’t exist. To define a genuinely holistic version of the stars in this lifetime seems to be one of my tasks. Finally I really feel like taking it on. Then there is of course also the band…..

I just got back from playing with Lion Island in the Grand Finals of the Tooheys Uncharted competition. 2,000 bands entered and we made it to the last three. That’s pretty damn amazing. I am glad we didn’t win. I could see a potential pact with the devil looming there. We did however have a great time playing at The Annandale Hotel using fantastic equipment, in front of a bunch of music industry personages. It is always so much fun to play. Definitely one of our best gigs. There is a recording of it in existence. Who knows it might make it into circulation. I’ve only heard little bits but it sounded pretty good.

We travelled well. Airports and taxi transfers and hotel rooms and lots of luggage and eight fellow lions to yabber on to at all hours of the day and night in the big smoke of Sydney. If this becomes a lifestyle it could become a source of much writing. Lord knows what it will do to my stars. It’s not all glory that’s for sure. Fun nevertheless. And what a blast to get to play this wild and wonderful music in a great band in my pre-dotage years.

We are playing three gigs in three days this weekend if you happen to be in Brisvegas. Friday night supporting The Gin Club at The Zoo (We’re on at 8.50), Saturday Night at The Troubadour, not sure what time we are on (Check out The Troubadour website) and at 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon in the park behind the Ithaca swimming pool in Paddington (Opposite Suncorp Stadium). Be there.

Under a Bright Orange Sky

Posted in Astrology, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on September 23, 2009 by sudhirastropoetica

A lot happens in 24 hours. There has been a dust storm in the sky today that turned it orange. Seriously strange. Yesterday at Lion Island music practise I heard we had been offered a gig by The Harbour Agency which is pretty amazing. They are big bananas. Looks like we are off up the mountain to Toowoomba later in October. And all while somehow mulling over the symbol of Leo. I would love to simplify astrology and do surgery on the superstition it is riddled with. An astrology software salesperson sent me an e-mail yesterday claiming that a certain person’s transits proved that they were an axe murderer, even though they were adjudged innocent. This is idiocy. What’s worse is that when I pointed out that it was a rather long bow to draw, he had no sense whatsoever of the irony. I choose to persist with the soothsaying anyway. I look forward to my book getting out and about on the streets, coffee tables and bookshelves of the world, so I can finally have my angle circulating through the collective unconscious.

My Book is due out soon. Watch this space! Yes – I am available for sessions. Yes – I am available to run workshops and give talks. And my songs are now up at Bandcamp. Check the links on this site. I can be contacted at astropoetica@gmail.com

Enjoy!

Songs, Virgo and Queen Victoria’s Petticoats

Posted in Astrology, Music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on September 22, 2009 by sudhirastropoetica

Yesterday I put a compilation of my songs up at Bandcamp. Finally a website elegantly designed for independent artists to sell their stuff without getting tangled in other peoples musically mercinary business adventures. Go to the links on this blog and you’ll see what I mean. It’s refreshingly simple. Enjoy!

On the astrological front I am going to keep bringing these blogs back to the themes of the month – and for now that means Virgo. The original Goddess represented the order of nature. I could contemplate that forever. She can be seen in the spine of a leaf, heard in the rustle of the morning trees, felt in the spring heat. And what is in her way are all the ludicrous ideas about what is right and wrong that have been layered on top of her. The primal virgin has got more petticoats, dresses, hats and corset on than Queen Victoria. She is the very nature that runs through our veins. She needs to be disrobed. That means undressing the real me from his conditioning. Dancing seems to help. The body likes to move. The armour cracks and falls off when dancing freely. Slowly day by day a little bit more hits the dust. Natacha Atlas and Arabic rhythms seem to work for me. Oh and Shooglenifty.

My Book is due out soon. Watch this space! And – Yes – I am available for sessions. Yes – I am available to run workshops and give talks. I can be contacted at astropoetica@gmail.com

Enjoy!
